This year we had Tyler’s birthday a little earlier than normal, which was a good thing since he had been talking about it for the past 4 months. He was adamant that it had to be a Transformers themed birthday party. Well, rather than doing a whole themed party like last year with Thomas and train tracks all over the house we decided to do things a little simpler. We reserved the party room at Mi Amore pizza parlor in Lompoc, which has a game room similar to Chuck E Cheese. Then we added Transformers plates, napkins, party hats, decorations, and goodie bags. Tyler was more than happy with this, but we did almost have a crisis when our local Albertsons ran out of the decorations to make a Transformers cake. So we improvised and took the Optimus Prime photo we used for his Evite invitation, which Bill had cropped Tyler into, and had it printed on his cake. Then Alana bought some Transformers cupcake and cake decorations and we called it a Transformers cake. Crisis averted! Then we almost ruined it again when we forgot to bring the candles and a lighter to the pizza parlor. Luckily there was a drug store right next door. Our thanks to our friends Gillian and Penelope who ran over to get them (even though they were re-lighting candles ;-) ). We had a lot of friends in attendance as Tyler invited his entire pre-school class and his playgroup friends. We were glad that we decided not to have it at the house this year. Of course, Tyler has already decided the theme for next year will be Bakugan. Hopefully we can trim down his guest list to less than 10 kids and make it even simpler next year. Probably not.
